Harald will address the reasons and goals of the convention whereas Andrea will focus on the logistics of the whole weekend.
09:15 Successful breeding of the Annam Pond Turtle Mauremys annamensis in Austria – Andreas Hofer, Wels, Austria
The keeping and breeding of the Annam Pond Turtle is described in detail. The turtles are kept in an indoor enclosure in the author’s house in Upper Austria. Strategies for better hatching rates including special incubation techniques are presented.
10:00 The Razorback Musk Turtle Sternotherus carinatus, a rare turtle species from the southeastern USA – Stefano Redaelli, Milan, Italy
The Razorback Musk Turtle lives in the southern USA. The author presents his experiences with the successfully maintenance of this striking turtle species and also refers to its rarity in European collections today.

11:00 Freshwater turtle habitats in Papua Province, Indonesia – Harald Artner, Sitzenberg-Reidling, Austria
Harald spent two weeks in Irian Jaya (now Papua Province) in 1993 searching for turtles like Macrochelodina rugosa, Chelodina reimanni, Emydura subglobosa, Elseya branderhorstii, Carettochelys insculpta and others. He even found a new turtle species there.
11:45 Keeping and breeding the Chinese Striped Turtle Mauremys (Ocadia) sinensis – Andrea Luison, Latina, Italy
The keeping and breeding of Mauremys sinensis may not be something highly special, but in reality it is not an easy task. Andrea Luison, co-author of a great and very recent book on turtles together with Stefano Redaelli, is an experienced breeder and will show us how it works.

21:00 Antarctica - once a turtles’ paradise - Jan Michels, Bremerhaven, Germany
A widely renowned scientist specialised on Antarctic zooplankton and copepods inhabiting Antarctic sea ice, Jan Michels from the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven has accepted the task to give a talk about a region where no turtles occur at a turtle symposium! We can expect high quality photos showing one of the world’s most unknown regions that once, when still part of Gondwana, was home to many turtle species.

Davide has managed to breed this highly demanding species lately and will present us the key factors of this fantastic breeding success.

10:45 Breeding Parker’s Snake-neck Turtle Macrochelodina parkeri – Oliver Römpp, Dewangen, Germany
Oliver is probably the best Chelodina and Macrochelodina breeder in the world. His presentations are widely known and appreciated for their clear messages and fantastic photographs. He will explain how a turtle nests under water.
11:30 Outstanding turtle species bred by EFTBA in 2007 – Marijan Tunjic, Vienna, Austria
The EFTBA breeding successes are many these days. Marijan presents the most outstanding ones of 2007.
