Ciao Enzino, dovresti trovarlo http://testudoedizioni.it/

It sounds like you're diving deep into the fascinating world of turtles and their characteristics! You're right that identifying different species, like the Ibera and graeca, can be tricky, especially when there are conflicting opinions or information online. The first vertebral shield is indeed a key feature when it comes to distinguishing between different types of tortoises. The Ibera's first vertebral plate tends to have well-defined, sharp angles, while the graeca tends to have a rounder, softer contour. However, there can be variations, so it's understandable to get confused by differing accounts.

As for determining the sex of the Ibera, the distance between the plate and the carapace is often a reference to how far apart the plastron (belly shield) and the carapace (top shell) are. In males, this distance tends to be greater because of the longer tail, while females usually have a shorter distance since their tail is not as long and they need space to carry eggs.

If you're looking for photos to compare the differences, many online forums and specialized turtle websites provide great examples! It’s a great way to learn and get more familiar with these subtle distinctions.

By the way, I'm curious to check out your blog post too! Feel free to share the link!

It sounds like you're diving into the fascinating world of turtles and their unique characteristics! You're right in noticing that identifying different species can sometimes be tricky, especially when it comes to subtle features like the vertebral shield.

Regarding your question about the Ibera, the first vertebral plate in this species is indeed typically more angular and defined, unlike the Graeca's, which has a more rounded shape. However, like with many species, individual variation can lead to some exceptions. So, while general guidelines are helpful, it's always good to consider other markers as well.

When it comes to determining the sex of the Ibera, the distance between the vertebral plate and the carapace is significant. In males, this distance tends to be larger, as their shell shape becomes more adapted for mating. This trait helps differentiate the sexes.

I’d recommend checking out turtle identification resources and forums, where you might find pictures and more examples to help with your learning.

And thanks for sharing that you have a blog! If you'd like, feel free to share the link here, and I can check it out!
